Zenji Nio was honored by Nagpur University and was also facilitated by India's Foreign Secretary as the world's most influential Buddhist of Indic origin. Zenji Nio's speech for the Indian Embassy was also been praised by Shri Lakshmanan who is an advisor to the Modi Govt -- however -- he agreed that the Hindutva narrative of trying to claim Buddhism in untenable and will never be accepted by the global Buddhist community that Zenji Nio represents -- a position also upheld by the Shankaracharyas. Zenji Nio is clear that Buddhism is a separate, sovereign and unique religion that is not in any way "a part of Hinduism" and every accredited scholar worldwide and all accredited Indologists agree with Zenji Nio's position. While Zenji Nio gladly supports charities in India, he upholds Satyameva Jayate or the triumph of Truth by not allowing Buddhism to be used in any way for the Hindutva agenda. Furthermore, China has hundreds of millions of Buddhists and Chinese Buddhism is the world's most followed sect of Buddhism worldwide which further stresses the need for India to not use Buddhism for political agenda. Buddhism has not been a part of India for thousand plus years and while it is important to make revival efforts, they cannot be done as a counter to China's position as the leader of Buddhism worldwide as well as the contributions of Japan in promoting Buddhism all over the world.
